M'sia man, 52, fined S$1,771 for beating up & threatening to kill man, 70, following road accident

A 52-year-old man in Malaysia was fined RM5,500 (S$1,771) on Feb. 11 for assaulting and threatening to kill a 70-year-old man following a minor road accident on Sunday, Feb. 8.

A 1-minute 20-second video of the incident at 4:05pm, along Jalan Cheras-Hulu Langat, was posted online.

It showed a man, Saiful Adli Yusof, confronting a driver in a car, before kicking him.

The victim Liew Khoon Foo, 70, was punched and kicked in the face and body.

Saiful Adli pleaded guilty to two charges in court.

Under the first charge, he was accused of causing hurt to Liew.

The second charge involved criminal intimidation by threatening to kill the victim.

What happened

The victim's Proton Wira got into a minor accident with the Saiful Adli's Toyota Vellfire at 3:45pm, according to the facts of the case.

The retiree feared for his safety and continued driving toward Taman Suntex.

Saiful Adli gave chase in his MPV.

The victim was forced to stop at a traffic light, and the accused kicked the victim's car.

The victim then stepped out of the vehicle.

Saiful Adli struck the elderly man multiple times.

The victim suffered a bruised eye, a swollen chin, and a bleeding tongue.

Asked for leniency

The deputy public prosecutor requested a deterrent sentence, while the defence lawyer sought a minimum fine.

The defence lawyer told the court that Saiful Adli has four children, including a newborn, and is the sole breadwinner, who earns RM2,000 a month.

The court heard his children are aged between six days and 16 years.

His mother-in-law was said to be suffering from a chronic illness.

Saiful Adli had acted out of distress, his lawyer said, as his wife and then-three-day-old infant were in the vehicle during the accident.

The fine imposed was for both charges.

He must serve eight months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
