Man in China, allegedly enraged by wife's infidelity, sets her lover on fire on the street using flamethrower

A man in China was caught on video setting fire to another person on the streets with a flamethrower.

The victim ultimately perished, SingTao Headline reported.

According to rumours circulating online, the incident happened in Jiangsu province on Feb. 2, and was captured on camera by a passerby.

Suspected case of infidelity

The perpetrator allegedly suspected that his wife was having an affair, and decided to take revenge by killing his wife's lover.

As of Feb. 4, the local police had not yet released a statement on the incident.

Infidelity

According to SingTao Headline, people who claimed to have inside information shared online that the perpetrator believed the man's wife had not returned home for months because she was living with her lover.

Before the incident, the husband had allegedly confronted his wife and her lover at their house with a knife, but was beaten up by them.

Enraged further, he bought parts online to make his own flamethrower, 8world reported.

Lover offered compensation

Alleged witnesses claimed that the victim got on his knees and begged for mercy before being set alight.

He also purportedly offered to pay the perpetrator 500,000 yuan (S$92,000) as compensation, but the perpetrator still continued to torch him.

Smoking calmly afterwards

After the incident, multiple police officers arrived to arrest the perpetrator, as seen in the video.

While they were still examining the scene, the perpetrator sat on a pavement curb, smoking a cigarette.

Someone who claimed to be a witness said he was calmly smoking even as he was waiting for the police to arrive.

He allegedly said that he had "planned early on to die along with the victim", according to this witness.
