A man was caught on camera in Geylang in 2025 dressed as Bruce Lee and wielding nunchucks on the streets.

He was sentenced to jail for six months and two weeks and fined S$2,000 for possessing an offensive weapon.

According to Shin Min Daily News, Li Hongwei, 59, claimed to be a martial arts instructor and stage manager from China.

Yellow tracksuit

In an Instagram video posted on Sgfollowsall on Oct. 8, 2025, a man was spotted in Geylang in a bright yellow tracksuit and a black backpack.

It had a black stripe down the side, similar to the one that the late martial artist Bruce Lee wore previously.

The man in Singapore stood on two bollards, while wielding a pair of nunchucks around.

In the background, one person could be heard calling him "Singapore's Bruce Lee" in Mandarin, while others laughed.

The man then got off the bollards and walked away as people cheered and clapped for him at the end.

Police looked for man

Following the video, the Singapore police force began patrolling the area in search of Li, Shin Min Daily News reported.

On Oct. 12, the police found Li at Geylang Lorong 18.

He was found in the possession of nunchucks, a five-speared kunai (a specific Japanese knife), and knuckledusters.

Li was then arrested and faced two charges, one for violating the Firearms, Explosives, and Weapons Control Act, the other for possessing an offensive weapon.

Unfamiliar with Singapore's laws

In court, Li said he was not familiar with Singapore's laws and claimed the items seized by the police were used for teaching and performing martial arts, Shin Min stated.

However, the prosecution argued that the nunchucks were classified as a weapon, and Li did not possess a licence for them at the time.

The prosecution also stated that while the nunchucks were used solely for personal training, the other two weapons Li possessed could be considered to cause actual harm or instil fear.

The kunai and the knuckle duster could be used to inflict harm in attacks.

According to Shin Min, Li pleaded guilty to one charge and was sentenced to six months and two weeks in prison.

He was also fined S$2,000.
