Popular grilled meat hawker stall Blackgoat at Jalan Batu closes down, shares recipes online
Not the end.
Popular grilled meat hawker stall Blackgoat in Jalan Batu in Mountbatten closed down on Jan. 18, 2026, after nearly three years in business.
The owner, Fikri Rohaimi, thanked his family, team and customers for their support over the years in a 13-page Instagram post on Jan. 19.
The stall, located at Jalan Batu Hawker Centre, opened in February 2023 and drew hour-long queues right up until its final days.
The closure came as a surprise to many, and Fikri apologised for not announcing it in advance, saying that he "could not bear to see nor handle the craze that would come".
Blackgoat was started after Fikri's stint at three-Michelin-starred Zen and Burnt Ends.
Improving themselves
Fikri hinted that his team will be taking time to learn and gain new skills before making a comeback:
"The knowledge in this industry is infinitely deep, so large and so wide. And I am not naive enough to think I am complete, nor that I have seen it all. I know nothing, and I want to learn, and I want to wait and I want to be thorough. I want to learn -and to execute better. And there are still so many things for me to learn and see, and taste, and gain skills."
"This is not the end," he added.
Shared recipes
In a separate post on Jan. 27, the stall shared the recipes for more than 10 of their dishes, including their sauces and garnishing methods.
The recipes included those for the classic cheeseburger and Malay Caesar Salad.
"We will be back some day," the caption for this post read.
