M'sian woman works 2 jobs, earns RM50 (S$16) a day to support family & 2 kids, husband spends all on drugs
Divorce did cross her mind, but she stayed for her children and mother-in-law.
For years, a Malaysian woman worked two jobs as the sole breadwinner of her family, earning RM50 (S$16) a day, only for her husband to spend it all on drugs and leave nothing for their two kids.
She opened up about her struggles after her husband was arrested by Malaysia's anti-drug agency.
RM50 (S$16) a day
The woman's story was recounted in a Facebook post by Malaysia's anti-drug agency.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the woman from Kedah, Malaysia, poured her heart out to enforcement agents after she visited the lock-up to deliver medication for her detained husband.
She told the agents that she worked two jobs, starting as a packer for online businesses in the morning and preparing ikan bilis in the evening.
Each day, she took home around RM50 (S$16).
However, all the earnings would be spent by her husband on drugs in the blink of an eye, leaving nothing for their children, Sin Chew Daily wrote.
Due to his drug addiction, the husband is debilitated and unable to work.
The woman added that she felt sad whenever she thought about her two school-going children.
She grieved how her children had to make sacrifices and go to school with less than RM1 (S$0.30) a day because of their family problems, the agency's Facebook post read.
Divorce did cross her mind
The woman said that she put up with her husband's transgressions because he was not abusive.
Divorce did cross her mind, but she stayed strong for her children as well as her mother-in-law.
Malaysia's anti-drug agency said in the Facebook post that it will help as much as it can.
"Patience is needed to solve such issues," the agency added.
The woman's husband was arrested along with six other suspected drug users, Sin Chew Daily reported.
