Sheng Siong boss hands out ang baos at opening of new Kallang store

At the opening of their new Leisure Park Kallang store on Dec. 19, Sheng Siong's executive chairman, Lim Hock Eng, handed out ang baos to customers.

In a few TikTok videos, the executive chairman was seen dressed in a formal blue suit casually gifting customers the red packets himself.

The clip by @sgmustwatchla was captioned "Handsome Sheng Siong boss give out 100x angpao at new outlet".

According to the description box of the video, the queue for red packets was "super long".

Family business

Lim was there for the store's official opening ceremony, which included dragon and lion dance performances and a ribbon cutting ceremony.

He was heard saying "gong xi fa cai", a common Mandarin greeting that wishes prosperity and wealth on the listener.

Sheng Siong was started by the Lim brothers (Lim Hock Eng, Lim Hock Chee and Lim Hock Leng) in 1985.

Lim Hock Eng is the eldest of the three brothers.

The supermarket chain has recently ventured out of the heartlands of Singapore and into shopping malls with their first major downtown comeback being their store at The Cathay.

Sheng Siong now has over 80 locations islandwide and has even expanded to Kunming in China.
