A woman in her 50s decided to spend a night at a male host club to unwind after facing problems at home and at the workplace.

She woke up the next day to find that she had spent over S$12,000, out of which S$11,000 was on garlands alone.

She has since made a police report, claiming that she was pressured into spending and presenting garlands to the male hosts.

Became tipsy

According to Shin Min Daily News, the woman, who did not want to be named, shared that the incident took place on Nov. 18.

"At the time, I was facing some personal issues at work and at home. I had no one to turn to, and thought that it would be easier to chat with a stranger. After my friend recommended it, I decided to visit a nightclub, hoping to unwind," the woman said.

The friend introduced her to a male host, named Sky, who helped her book a room at "Long Gong" Club M, which translates to "Dragon's Den" Club M.

The club is located along Coleman Street.

"The male host is from China, and he serviced my room. He would chat, have drinks and play games with me. Occasionally, he would introduce other male hosts to me and encourage me to present garlands to them," she recounted.

She added that the garlands were not cheap.

After awhile, she grew tipsy from the drinks, despite claiming that she typically holds her alcohol well.

"I felt unwell and out of it as I was presenting the garlands," she said.

According to her, the nightclub did not provide receipts and she was also not allowed to take photos.

Cut off Sky and her friend

She only discovered a day later that had spent a total of S$12,461 at the nightclub, of which S$11,000 went to the garlands.

"I feel that such establishments have a whole host of issues, including pushy sales tactics, non-transparent pricing and hidden charges. On top of that, they would induce spending by exerting emotional pressure," the woman complained.

She has since cut off Sky and the friend who introduced them.

Additionally, she has filed a police report and pursued legal action to recover her money.

"The police suggested I bring this up with the Consumer Association of Singapore. I'm still waiting to hear back," the woman shared.

"I hope that my experience can serve as a cautionary tale," she continued.

Garland fee was S$200 per host

Shin Min, citing Stomp, wrote that booking a room at the club cost S$60.

Presenting a host with a garland came with a fee of S$200.

A garland presentation session took place every two hours.

Stomp reporters who went down to the club also confirmed that photo-taking was not allowed.

Club to pursue legal action

A spokesperson from the nightclub told Shin Min that Club M is an above-board establishment in Singapore.

"We have surveillance footage and have provided it to our lawyers to handle the matter. Singapore upholds the rule of law. We will pursue legal action against the customer who has damaged the club's reputation," the spokesperson said, according to Shin Min.
