The Most Valuable Party (MVP) has been approved by the Singapore government as a new political party on Dec. 18.

According to a notice published in the Government Gazette at 5pm on Friday, MVP was officially registered under the Registrar of Societies that day.

The country's roster of political parties now totals 21 with this new entry.

Party members undisclosed, may contest as standalone party

Party chief Chia Yun Kai, 32, a restaurant owner, debuted in the 2025 General Election (GE) and contested Pasir Ris-Changi GRC after joining the Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA).

Speaking to Mothership in April 2025, Chia said he had wanted to contest East Coast GRC "whether or not the party is approved".

Chia said his motivation to contest in the election had stemmed from the "little improvement" made in his East Coast residential area after 20 years under the helm of former deputy prime minister Heng Swee Keat.

He told The Straits Times that the MVP welcomes "more people to join" them, following the party's official registration.

While he did not disclose the current number of party members, he said MVP would "likely contest" as a standalone party in the next election and "put up a good fight wherever we'll be at".

At least 10 founding members required to form registered party

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs' (MHA) website, forming a society requires at least 10 founding members.

On top of that, an application fee of up to S$400 is also payable.

Documents needed for the application include the society's constitution, written in English, along with any letters of approval or support from relevant stakeholders, if applicable.

For political associations, membership is limited to Singapore citizens and such groups must not be affiliated with any foreign organisation deemed contrary to Singapore's national security or interests.
