After finishing her dinner at a restaurant in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, a woman from Singapore was shocked to find out that one of her car windows had been smashed.

She also realised that her laptop and Prada bag, which contained work documents, were no longer in her car.

The woman subsequently publicised her encounter on the Hardware Zone forum on Dec. 17, but her post has since become inaccessible, reported Shin Min Daily News.

What happened

According to the woman, the incident occurred near The Toast, located along Jalan Sri Pelangi in Taman Pelangi.

In the photos attached to her post, the front passenger window of her car, a Toyota Vellfire, had been completely shattered.

Glass fragments could be seen scattered on the ground.

The woman said she has lodged a police report at a local police station.

The police apparently told her that she should not have left any belongings in the car.

Warning for other travellers

The woman also wrote in her post that she had obtained surveillance camera footage from nearby shops, which captured the culprits in action.

Besides asking where she could replace her car window, the woman warned other travellers to keep a closer eye on their belongings.

She also shared that her encounter had prompted her to consider reducing her visits to Johor Bahru in the future.

At the same time, she questioned whether it was worth saving some money while in Johor Bahru, only to fall victim to a crime.

The woman was not the first victim of vehicle break-ins in Johor Bahru in recent years.

In July 2023, a Singaporean family's car window was smashed while they were having dinner along Jalan Layang.

As a result, they lost RM570 (S$165) in cash, a backpack, and a mobile phone that they had kept inside the car.

More recently, in December 2024, a Singaporean couple found out that their car had been broken into after they finished shopping at Tebrau 3.

The culprit had apparently stolen their black backpack, which contained a hot water thermos for their son and the wife's AirPods.
