WhatsappMalaysian member of parliament Yeo Bee Yin has been slammed by Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki for what appears to be a mockery of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's rejected house arrest appeal.

The former president of Umno, who was convicted in 2020 on money laundering and criminal breach of trust charges, was denied his bid for house arrest in place of jail on Dec. 22.

This means he will serve the remainder of his six-year sentence in prison.

In response to the news, Yeo, who is serving under the ruling Madani government as part of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), posted a short caption on Facebook that read, "another reason to celebrate this year end."

"Rude and inhumane"

Her comments were called out by Asyraf for being "very rude and inhumane".

"If you are unable to offer any sympathy, do not issue such rude and offensive statements," he wrote in a Facebook post that reposted Yeo's words.

Referring to Najib as a "former top leader who is deeply loved by the entire Umno family", Asyraf then alluded to his party re-examining their ties with those who do not appreciate their contributions to forming the unity government.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also appeared to warn against comments like those made by Yeo.

"Do not add fuel to the fire," he said in a cryptic post, according to Malay Mail
