Married S'porean man, 45, posed as female online & obtained sexual services from girl, then 14

A married man, 45, pleaded guilty to two counts of obtaining sexual services from a minor and one count of trying to procure an indecent act by a child.

In 2022, Chew Koh Leong also known as "Andrew", posed as female and approached the then-14-year-old girl on Carousell, obtaining sexual services from the underaged girl.

According to court documents obtained by Mothership, Chew knew that the minor was a secondary school student.

The victim cannot be named due to a gag order to protect her identity.

Four other charges are still being considered, reported Channel News Asia.

Chew posed as female to 'make friends with girls'

At the time of the offences, Chew was married and employed as a Workplace and Safety Hygiene Manager, stated court documents.

Around 2018 or 2019, Chew chanced upon a girl's Facebook account and downloaded her photos.

He created a fake account utilising her name and photos without permission.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Delicia Tan stated that Chew wanted to use the fake account to befriend girls.

"He felt that it would be easier for him to make friends with girls, if he pretended to be a female."

Met victim on Carousell

In 2022, Chew created a Carousell account using the same pretend name, photos and profile to "date girls, secretly without letting his wife find out", as he felt that the e-commerce marketplace app was easier to conceal his actions from her.

Chew came across the victim's Carousell account after she listed an S$18 dress for sale, he posed as a girl and asked her questions about the dress, eventually settling on a purchase deal.

However, Chew told the minor that "her brother" would collect the dress from her.

Chew asked for the girl's phone number to organise the meeting and messaged her on WhatsApp, asking her for personal information on her family and background.

Therefore, Chew knew that the minor was 13 years old at the time and would turn 14 years old later that year.

Minor partook in her school uniform during second encounter

Chew proceeded to offer to pay the girl for sexual services, and she agreed to some of the requests, as she needed the money.

He would request for specific articles of clothing to be worn during their meetings and the girl would accede to his requests.

In August 2022, he asked her to "perform oral sex on him, or in the alternative, he offered S$400 to let him kiss her". Then 13-years-old, the girl declined both requests.

In October 2022, Chew paid the girl S$150 to hug and touch her over her clothes in the backseat of his car which was parked at Sun Plaza in Sembawang.

He requested to meet the girl again in May 2023, repeating his actions in their last encounter except this time he brought her to a carpark stairwell, according to court documents.

On Nov. 15, 2023, the police were informed that Chew engaged in commercial sex with a minor below 18 years of age.

On Dec. 23, 2023, Chew was arrested on suspicion of having committed the act and released on bail the same day.

Chew's sentence will be fixed on Mar. 4, 2026.
