A Malaysian woman was allegedly found to have married another man while still legally married to her first husband.

The discovery was made on Dec. 6, when her sister-in-law, Nur, decided to look into suspicious behaviour involving her brother’s wife.

According to Nur, the alleged second marriage had remained hidden for nearly a year.

Allegedly married in Thailand since last year

Speaking to Sinar Harian, Nur said she visited a house believed to belong to the alleged second husband, accompanied by police officers and residents.

Upon arrival, she was shocked after encountering a man she did not recognise.

“I asked him to show his marriage certificate before calling my sister-in-law out,” Nur said.

Nur added that the man, who is from Johor, claimed he had been married to her sister-in-law for about a year.

He allegedly claimed the marriage took place on Nov. 5, 2024, at the Songkhla Provincial Islamic Religious Office in Thailand.

Nur said she immediately informed her brother of the situation.

According to her, her brother and his wife were never divorced and had continued living together, appearing to have a normal marriage.

Nur further alleged that her sister-in-law had been dividing her time between the two men.

“During the day, she stays at her second husband’s house. At night, she comes home to my brother,” she said.

She added that the two homes are located just 19 kilometres apart.

Aftermath

Nur also claimed that about a week after the incident, her sister-in-law lodged a police report accusing her of harassment.

She alleged the report was false and has since filed a complaint with the Tanah Merah Religious Office, but claimed no action has been taken so far.

“This is no longer a personal matter. It involves the sanctity of Islam. Authorities must act immediately according to existing laws,” she stressed.

Nur added that her sister-in-law has allegedly refused to move out of her brother’s house despite the allegations.

As of Dec. 14, there has been no official response from religious authorities regarding the matter.
