A cook was fatally stabbed at a Thai-style restaurant in Malaysia after a customer allegedly complained the food was unsatisfactory, reported the Malaysia Gazette.

The incident occurred at about 9pm on Wednesday (Nov. 12) at an eatery in Penang, when a group of diners grew dissatisfied with the dish served and became embroiled in an argument with the cook, a Myanmar national in her 40s.

The stabbing

According to investigators, the group had arrived at around 8:30 pm, reportedly already intoxicated, before expressing discontent with the meal’s quality, according to the The Vibes.

During the altercation the cook and her husband, also a Myanmar national in his late 40s, asked the group to leave the premises.

However, one of the diners, aged in his 30s, called his younger brother and then returned armed with a knife before allegedly stabbing the cook to death.

Her husband sustained injuries to his body, while another man, who was a friend of the suspect, was also stabbed.

Both of them were rushed to Seberang Jaya Hospital.

Police investigation

Three suspects, including the two brothers, were arrested near the scene shortly afterwards.

The third suspect, a 50-year-old man, appeared to be a transporter who tried to help the two brothers escape.

The police have issued a remand order against all three.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Penang police chief confirmed, as cited by the New Straits Times, that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction or an imprisonment term ranging from 30 to 40 years.

The victim’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination while the injured parties remain under treatment.
