23 Malaysians were fined for attempting to leave Malaysia without presenting their passports, while three others received a warning.
According to the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), the incident occurred on Oct. 16 at the motorcycle lane of the Immigration, Customs, and Quarantine Complex, located at the Sultan Iskandar Building.
Investigations revealed that the 26 motorists had breached Section 2(2) of the Passport Act, which requires travellers to present their passports to the Immigration officer on duty.
10 individuals were fined RM1,000 (S$314.22) each on Nov. 6, while the remaining 13 were fined RM1,500 (S$471.33) each on Nov. 13.
The last three were pillion riders and received written warnings.
AKPS warned riders that those who fail to comply with the rules risk legal actions and loss of employment, as the immigration department may withhold their passports during the investigation process.
