Boy, 12, in China confined to hospital beds over last 2 years after several organs removed during routine surgery
His family is demanding the release of surgical footage after nearly six of his organs were removed in the operation.
A 12-year-old boy in China has been confined to hospital beds for the past two years after his organs were removed during a routine surgery.
Vision Times reported that the operation, which took place in 2023, was supposed to remove a supposed abdominal tumour.
The boy, Xiao Ye, was 10 years old when the 14-hour operation was carried out.
He had close to six of his organs removed.
Following the operation, his family was told that these organs removed, included his duodenum, small intestine, pancreas, gallbladder, and two-thirds of his stomach.
In addition, less than half a metre of his colon was left.
Devastating consequences
Videos by Chinese media on WeChat showed that the boy is now unable to eat or drink.
He is dependent on intravenous nutrition to survive where footage showed it was administered via puncturing his veins.

This was the result of his entire digestive and absorption system being absent following the operation, his mother, Yue, said.
The family has visited multiple hospitals in China for a solution.
However, they have been told that Xiao Ye requires multiple organ transplants, which would be very difficult and costly.
Hit in abdomen
This comes after another child accidentally hit Xiao Ye in the abdomen in 2023.

He later complained of pain and his mother Yue said there was no sign of external injury.
14-hour surgery
However, doctors at Chengwu County People’s Hospital diagnosed him with an abdominal hematoma.
After doctors conducted more tests, the family was told that Xiao Ye needed surgery.
Yue said: "We were told it might just be a small blood clot. But once he went into the operating room, everything changed."

Over the next 14 hours, doctors repeatedly asked the family for consent to proceed with additional procedures.
"Shortly after it started, a doctor rushed out saying there was massive bleeding and they needed to open up his abdomen," Yue said.
She added: "We wanted to transfer hospitals, but they refused."
"Then they said a large tumour was found on the pancreas and it had to be removed — along with the duodenum. Every hour or two, they came out for another signature. We signed four times in total. When we hesitated, they said we were refusing treatment."
It was only after the surgery that Xiao Ye's family was told of the exact organs that were removed.
Family demanding justice
Following the surgery, a third-party forensic report issued in December 2024 found that not only was the hospital's medical conduct faulty, there was also a link between the surgery and Xiao Ye's resulting injuries.
In addition, a Sep. 28, 2025 written response by the Chengwu County's Health Commission cited multiple violations.
In response to the situation, Chengwu County People's Hospital issued a "compensation payment" of RMB200,000 (S$36,671) in July 2025.
However, this was only a fraction of what is needed for ongoing care, according to Xiao Ye's family.
They are now demanding the release of surgical footage and monitoring records as they wish to clarify what actually happened in the operating room.
The boy's mother said: "We just want to see the truth. We want justice for our child."
