As part of Malaysia's new education curriculum, schools will adopt a co-teaching method, where two teachers will manage a single classroom.

This new method will be introduced under the 2027 school curriculum to "balance academic achievement and character development", New Straits Times reported.

This would focus on making teaching and learning more engaging and effective, so that students receive adequate attention, said Malaysia's education minister, Fadhlina Sidek.

The co-teaching method emphasises integrated learning, it was reported.

The concept combines several subjects into a single session, for example, teaching English, science and music together.

Not a teaching aide

According to the New Straits Times, Fadhlina explained that the co-teaching method involves two teachers "collaborating" in one classroom.

"It is not a case of a teacher being assisted by a teaching aide, but a combination of two equal educators working together to make lessons more effective and appealing," she said.

Additionally, two teachers in one classroom could help combat overcrowded classes.

Fadhlina stated that this particular approach is the best alternative for creating a more conducive and effective learning environment, New Straits Times reported.

She said: "We believe that this method, which promotes active classroom interaction, is the best way to ensure every student receives proper attention, thereby addressing learning loss and dropouts."

Free Malaysia Today reported that training sessions for the school year 2026 began in 2025.

Teachers would be fully prepared by 2027.
