BMTC refutes rumours that recruits not allowed to visit White Sands McDonald's after book-out
Recruits are free to spend their personal time as they wish when they book out.
Rumours claiming that recruits from the Basic Military Training Centre (BMTC) have been told to avoid visiting the McDonald's outlet at White Sands Shopping Mall have been refuted by the Singapore Armed Force's BMTC in a public statement on social media.
No restrictions imposed by BMTC
On Nov. 29, BMTC acknowledged the online comments and clarified that "recruits are free to spend their personal time as they wish when they book out", and that there are no restrictions imposed by BMTC.
The White Sands McDonald's outlet is closest to the shuttle pick-up point in Pasir Ris connecting to the SAF Ferry Terminal, and is a popular spot among BMTC recruits.
Rumours surfaced from TikTok video
Rumours swirling around this topic made the rounds online and was crystallised in a TikTok commenter's claim: "Did you know that Tekong BMTC barred all recruits from patronising the Macdonald (sic) outlet at White Sands mall? Just because some idiots complain to Mindef that too many recruits in uniform sitting".

A TikTok content creator posted a response to the comment, asking to "verify this information".
"Can someone from Tekong verify this information? This is just wild man," he said. "That Mcdonald's at White Sands was literally our comfort zone."
He later posted a follow-up video supposedly after receiving clarification from someone he vouched as "credible" and "who has been in this system".
In this video, he explained that recruits were advised to go home immediately after booking out to protect and not punish them.
"Everything a soldier does in public is hugely magnified by the public. We all know how harsh they can be with photos and videos, and these materials can be totally taken out of context, even though our soldiers have done nothing wrong," he claimed.
"This is really to safeguard the image of the recruits, of having their faces splashed all over social media unforgivingly."
