A Singapore secondary school teacher, 41, is facing charges for allegedly conspiring with a man to carry out harassment over an unpaid loan on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender.

She is apparently the Head of Department of English Language and Literature at St. Patrick's School.

'What's owed must be paid'

According to The Straits Times, Geraldine Quek Yi Ling was charged on Nov. 27 with acting on behalf of a loan shark, identified in court documents as "Travis Heng".

Quek allegedly conspired with a Malaysian, Mohd Hairul Nizam Mohd Johar, 40, to commit the offence on Nov 19.

Hairul had been accused of hanging a paper bag containing pork along with a note on the gate of a public housing flat unit in Dawson Road, near Alexandra Road.

The note was addressed to a man.

According to ST, the note read: "(What's) owed must be paid, call me before I come and burn your ... house. This is your final warning."

Hairul was earlier charged with the offence, but the charge was withdrawn on Nov. 28.

MOE to follow up with disciplinary proceedings

A search on Google revealed that Quek heads the English Language and Literature department at St. Patrick's School.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) told ST that it takes a serious view of staff misconduct and will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against those who fail to adhere to its standards of conduct and discipline.

Such action include dismissal from service, MOE said.

It added that it will follow up with disciplinary proceedings after the court case has concluded, according to ST.

Quek is representing herself in her case, according to information on the Singapore courts website.

The case is scheduled for further mention on Dec. 4.
