True Yoga Fitness to close all branches in Taiwan from Oct. 1, True Fitness S'pore unaffected
The closures in Taiwan are reportedly due to changes in internal operations and staffing.
True Yoga Fitness will shut down all its outlets in Taiwan from Oct. 1, 2025.
According to Taipei Times, local authorities in Taipei, New Taipei City and Taoyuan will launch investigations after the brand announced the closures without prior notice.
In response to Mothership's queries, a True Group Singapore spokesperson said that operations across its Singapore brands and branches remain unaffected, as it is a separate company.
Closures in Taiwan due to changes in internal operations and staffing
True Yoga Fitness Taiwan said on Sep. 23 that it decided to cease operations in the three cities due to internal restructuring and staffing changes, reported Taipei Times.
It apologised for the disruption and said details on compensation for affected members would be released soon.
According to Taipei Times, a member at the New Taipei City Xizhi District outlet, surnamed Chen, said she only found out about the closures when she checked the company's app on Sep. 24.
Chen had reportedly paid over NT$40,000 (S$1,692) for a three-year membership but had only used it for less than a year, voicing concern about whether she would be refunded.
A subsequent report on Sep. 30 on Taiwan News stated that all True Yoga Fitness branches will close on Oct. 1.
Taipei consumer official Yeh Chia Hao said that in Taiwan, fitness centres are required to give at least 24 hours' notice before halting operations.
Members are entitled to cancel their contracts, seek refunds for unused services, and pursue compensation if the closures are deemed the business's fault.
Taipei authorities have also received 128 complaints against True Yoga Taiwan, while New Taipei City and Taoyuan logged 22 and 13 complaints, respectively.
Investigations will be carried out in the three cities.
Taiwan Department of Labour section chief Hung San-kai said the agency would also look into the company following employee complaints about delayed salary payments.
"No impact on operations in Singapore": True Group Singapore
Speaking to Mothership, the True Group Singapore spokesperson said that the group is aware of the "recent developments affecting True Group Taiwan".
They added that True Group Taiwan is a franchisee that is majority-owned by a different company, and is a separate company from True Group Singapore.
According to the spokesperson, a Hong Kong-listed company is the majority shareholder of True Group Singapore and is giving True Group Singapore its "full backing and support".
As such, clubs or operations in Singapore will not be impacted.
"Our priority is providing assurance to our members, partners and staff that all True Fitness, TFX and Yoga Edition locations in Singapore operate with full parent company support," the spokesperson said.
