S'porean man posed as a teen, asked schoolgirls to be his girlfriend & raped them in Yishun Park toilet

On at least four separate occasions, a Singaporean man posed as a teenager online, lured schoolgirls into becoming his "girlfriend", and then sexually assaulted them when they agreed to meet up.

The youngest girl was just 11 years old.

Syed Muhammad Yusri Bin Syed Yasser, 25, was on Sep. 29 sentenced to 14 years and eight months' jail and 24 strokes of the cane.

He'd been arrested only after one of the victims' classmates caught wind of his acts.

Posed as a teen

The first encounter took place in 2020, according to court documents seen by Mothership.

Yusri had been 20 at the time and working as a freelance packer in a warehouse.

He reached out to the girl on Instagram, asked for her phone number, and lied that he was 16 to 17 and still in school.

She replied that she was 11 and in primary school.

Despite knowing this, he asked her to be his girlfriend, and she agreed.

He then asked to meet at a staircase landing near her home.

After chatting for a while, he abruptly pulled the girl towards him, hugged her, and kissed her on the lips.

She later texted him that the encounter made her feel uncomfortable, but he ignored this.

Assault at Yishun Park

One week later, Yusri asked to meet again at Yishun Park.

He led her into a handicapped toilet, locked the door, and raped her.

It was her first time having sex, and she felt "significant pain", according to court documents seen by Mothership.

He did not wear a condom during the encounter.

A few weeks later, the two met again at the same place.

The girl agreed as she did not believe that he would repeat his actions.

But again, he took her to the same toilet and raped her.

She then stopped communicating with Yusri.

Victim found his identity card

The second encounter took place in June 2021.

Yusri became acquainted with another schoolgirl, aged 14, over video chat website Omegle.

He was 21 but lied that he was 17.

As with the previous girl, he asked her to be his girlfriend and they began texting each other.

Soon, they met up and he assaulted and raped her, causing her pain.

Shortly afterwards, she found his National Service Identity Card and learnt of his actual age, causing her to fear and distrust Yusri.

After he continued to rape her whenever they met up, she stopped contacting him altogether.

Secret relationship

Finally, on Jul. 16, 2021, Yusri became acquainted with a primary school girl, aged 12, also through Omegle.

They exchanged numbers, and he lied that he was 14 years old.

He then asked her to be her girlfriend, but instructed her to keep their relationship a secret.

The girl agreed.

Asked about breast size

On multiple occasions, Yusri steered the conversation towards sexual topics.

He asked her about her breast size, whether she wanted to give him a blowjob, and whether she watched porn.

On Jul. 27, 2021, he texted her and asked for a "french kiss".

While the girl was hesitant as she was late for school and had never kissed anyone before, she eventually agreed at Yusri's insistence.

He then pressured her to meet him after school and have sex, which caused the girl to feel uncomfortable and avoid him.

Sexual assault

The next day, Yusri went to find her after she finished school.

Afraid, the girl asked her friends to join her so she could avoid him, but he found her first.

Yusri then brought her to a handicapped toilet in Yishun Park and began to initiate sexual contact.

Despite the girl's resistance, he told her to trust him, took off her T-shirt and bra, and forced her to give him a blowjob.

She cried in fear as she did so.

The arrest

That day, the victim's classmate had been in Yishun Park and saw the girl enter the handicapped toilet with Yusri.

The classmate decided to tell their form teacher.

The girl's family was alerted, and her mother brought her to file a police report.

He was arrested on Aug. 5, 2021. Investigations revealed his involvement with three other victims.

Yusri eventually pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated statutory rape and one count of sexual penetration of a minor, with four other charges taken into consideration during sentencing.

In their submissions, Deputy Public Prosecutors David Menon and Jheong Siew Yin called Yusri a "serial predator who targeted young girls...by posing as a lovestruck teenager", reported CNA.

They pointed out that he repeatedly lied about his age, demonstrating "predatory behaviour".

He did not wear a condom, exposing his victims to the risk of pregnancy and disease.

One of the girls, the 11-year-old also suffered "significant psychological trauma" as a result.

For sexually penetrating a minor younger than 16 years old, he could have been jailed up to 20 years, and fined or caned.
