A Mercedes-Benz allegedly lost control and mounted the sidewalk near Yishun Ring Road, knocking down two women.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the accident occurred at around 10am on Tuesday (Sep. 30), at the entrance of Khatib Polyclinic.

Photos of the scene showed the car stationary on the sidewalk, with police barricades cordoning off affected lanes and the pedestrian area.

Driver and victims sent to hospital

When Shin Min reporters arrived at the scene at around 11am, the car was still there.

The driver and the two injured women were already taken to the hospital.

The car's left front wheel appeared damaged and deflated, while the right side was dented.

The air bag was deployed, and a nearby road sign was knocked over.

Driver appeared "dazed"

Shin Min reported that according to witnesses, the driver, who was dressed in black, appeared "dazed" and remained in the car for some time after the accident.

He appeared to have been shaking uncontrollably.

When police arrived at the scene, they instructed the man to get out of the car, after which he proceeded to sit down on the side of the road.

At around 12pm, the police also dispatched a police dog to search the car.

A 43-year-old reader, surnamed Lin (transliterated), told Shin Min that the two women who were hit by the car were apparently "seriously injured".

"It looked like there was blood on their heads, and the driver also looked like he was bleeding from his mouth," he said.

One of the victims, who was dressed in red, was seen lying on the grass patch on the sidewalk while medical staff tended to her.

The other victim, who was lying on the pavement, reportedly had more serious injuries.

According to other witnesses, clinic staff and passers-by rushed forward to help immediately after the crash.

Woken up by a loud noise

In an interview with Shin Min, 26-year-old Chen Yue Jun (transliteration), a resident who lives on the fifth floor of Block 622 along Yishun Ring Road, said he was awakened by a loud crash.

When he went out to check, he realised there had been a car accident.

He said that he saw two people lying on the ground, with a pool of blood nearby.

Mothership has reached out to Singapore Police Force (SPF) for comment.
