'Simple gathering' at Queenstown stationery store to celebrate beloved community figure Mdm Ker's legacy
Come down.
Madam Ker Ah Kim passed away on Aug. 14, 2025.
She was the owner of the iconic Queenstown stationery store, Long Hwee.
Her passing saw some lovely tributes penned to her.
Both online:
And, fittingly enough, written with stationery:
Here's a rough translation of the letter:
"Auntie
You watched me grow up. When I was in Primary 1, you saw my grandma fetching me from my school bus. Now I’m 25. You were always around every time I needed to buy stationery or photocopy documents. But a week ago, when I needed to photocopy documents at your shop, your shop was closed.
I wanted to photocopy documents to register for my marriage in Malaysia. But you left us suddenly.
I hope you are well. My grandma also went to heaven a few years ago, and you will meet her there. You should know who she is right? The auntie who’s petite and feeds cat(s). I think colourful flowers suit your warm and friendly personality better. I hope you like these flowers from me and my husband. Hope you’re not suffering now that you’re in heaven.
Love,
Ya Juan <3"
Touched by the outpouring of support and well-wishes, Ker's family is holding a "simple gathering" for "relatives, friends, and loyal customers" to come together.
Here are the details:

Mothership understands that this was her grandchildren's initiative, as they were surprised that their "nai nai" (grandmother) had made such an impact on many residents' lives over the years.
They wanted to organise a tribute to their grandmother, and let the residents see the shop one last time before they decide what to do with it next.
This is also to give residents some closure as Ker had passed away "so suddenly".
So, if you've bought some stationery from her, or have some stories to share about Ker, or you just happen to be in the area, feel free to drop by.
