Heavy traffic expected at Woodlands & Tuas checkpoints from Sep. 5-15: ICA
School holiday season.
Heavy traffic is expected at both of Singapore's land checkpoints during the upcoming September school holidays, from Sep. 5 to 15.
Travellers should expect to wait longer to clear immigration as a result.
In a Sep. 1 travel advisory, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) advised travellers to check the traffic situation online before embarking on their journeys.
To avoid the worst of the queues, travellers can consider cross-border bus services.
They should also use QR codes generated from the MyICA mobile app for more convenient immigration clearance.
2 million travellers between Aug. 8-11
ICA reminded travellers that during the recent National Day weekend, car travellers had to wait up to three hours to clear immigration, due to traffic tailback from Malaysia.
Close to two million travellers crossed Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints during the recent National Day weekend from Aug. 8 to 11.
Traveller volume peaked on Aug. 8, with over 558,000 travellers clearing immigration at the land checkpoints in a single day.
Car travellers departing during peak periods had to wait up to three hours for immigration clearance, due to traffic tailback from Malaysia.
"We seek travellers’ understanding to cooperate with ICA officers, observe traffic rules and maintain lane discipline. ICA will not hesitate to take stern action against travellers who do not comply with officers’ instructions and commit offences at the checkpoints," the agency said.
