Mediacorp lays off 93 employees, cites 'rapidly evolving media landscape'
About 3 per cent of its entire workforce.
Singapore media network Mediacorp announced that 93 employees will be laid off as the company makes staff adjustments to "adapt to the rapidly evolving media landscape."
In its statement on Sep. 1, this accounts for slightly over three per cent of its total staff strength.
Mediacorp said it had made efforts to adapt and change while prioritising job preservation.
It underwent process improvements, implemented cost-saving initiatives, and made trade-offs to preserve roles and provide stability.
However, the scale and pace of transformation "require further action to strengthen long-term organisational sustainability".
One such action is to reduce its current workforce.
"This is a difficult decision and one not taken lightly," said Mediacorp CEO Tham Loke Kheng.
"We are deeply grateful to our colleagues for their contributions, and our priority at this point is to ensure that those affected are supported with care, humility and dignity during this transition."
Affected employees will be given till the end of September 2025 to apply for alternative roles within the organisation.
If no alternative is secured by the end of the month, the last day of employment will be Sep. 30.
As part of their retrenchment package, affected staff will receive a severance payment of one month per year of service, up to 25 months or S$250,000, depending on their years of service, current salary, and seniority.
They will also receive a training grant to support skills upgrading and preparation for future career opportunities.
They will also continue to have access to Mediacorp's wellbeing support programme for up to one year.
In a statement by Singapore Union of Broadcasting Employees (SUBE), the union said it will be onsite to assist affected workers and members.
SUBE will also be working with NTUC Infocomm and Media Cluster unions, and the wider Labour Movement, to extend additional support to affected workers.
