A tanker and a cargo ship collided 8km south of Tanah Merah at about 9:25am on Sep. 1, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a news release.

The ships involved are a Singapore-registered tanker, Marine Dynamo, and a Malta-registered bulk carrier, Flag Gangos.

Both ships are stable, although light oil sheens have been sighted around the Singapore tanker.

MPA shared that marine gas oil, which is used for propulsion and was stored in service tanks above the waterline, spilled from Marine Dynamo due to the collision.

However, it is expected to evaporate and break down naturally in the environment, according to MPA.

All crew are accounted for, with only one from the Singapore-registered ship reporting minor bruises and sprains.

MPA has deployed patrol craft and spill response craft to provide assistance, including to disperse oil sheens.

Drones have also been deployed to monitor the situation.

While navigational broadcast has been issued to alert passing vessels, there is no impact to navigational safety.

MPA also said it will be investigating the incident.
