Mdm Ker, owner of iconic Long Hwee stationery store in Queenstown, passes away at 78

Ker Ah Kin, the owner of the iconic Long Hwee stationery store in Mei Ling, has passed away at the age of 78.
News of her passing was shared on My Community.
Here's their tribute:
"Thanks for making all Queenstown kids fall in love with books and reading.
Long Hwee is probably the first place we get our toys, stationery and books.
We will always remember your witty banter with the seamstress.
We will always remember your kind reminders to take our lunches and cross the road safely after school.
We will always remember your soft, sweet smile.
We will always remember you..
Bye Bye"
Ker, along with her husband, Wee Kak Choo, set up their Queenstown store in 1968, after relocating from Beauty World.
Her wake service was held on Aug. 14, 2025 at Blk 33A Ghim Moh Link.
According to a Reddit post, news of her wake was also posted on her shopfront.

Tributes poured in on both the Facebook and Reddit post, with many sharing memories of their encounters with Ker, describing her as a kind and gentle presence in the community.
She really was.
