S'pore man, 25, says he's a teen, rapes 2 girls, aged 11 & 14, younger girl assaulted at Yishun Park handicap toilet

A 25-year-old man pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting various underage girls that he had befriended through dating apps and social media by posing as a teenager.

Syed Mohamed (transliteration from Chinese) asked a 12-year-old girl about sexual topics like her breast size, brought her to a handicap toilet in Yishun Park in July 2021 and forced her to perform a sex act on him.

That same year, he also raped a 11-year-old girl on two occasions in a handicap toilet in Yishun Park, which left her traumatised.

On Aug. 27, Syed pleaded guilty in the High Court to one count of sexually assaulting a minor, and two counts of statutory rape involving separate girls, Shin Min Daily News reported.

His sentencing has been adjourned to a later date.

Pretended to be 14 over dating app

The court heard that Syed, who was working as a part-time packer, befriended the 12-year-old girl on Jul. 16, 2021 through the Omegle dating app.

He told her that he was 14 years old and confessed his feelings to her.

After the girl said she liked him in return, they agreed to stay in contact.

As the two chatted, Syede started discussing explicit topics with the girl, such as her breast size and if she would be willing to perform oral sex on him.

On Jul. 27, Syed requested to meet the girl, saying he wanted to "French-kiss" her — an act the girl was unfamiliar with.

At about 7:30am, he met her at a bus stop near a school, brought her to a nearby car park, and forcibly kissed her.

Subsequently, Syed asked her to meet up with him to have sex, but the girl declined as she felt uncomfortable with his advances.

Forced girl to perform sex act in Yishun Park toilet

However, Syed was undeterred and tracked her down to a restaurant in Yishun on Jul. 28, 2021.

The girl tried to ask a friend for help, but Syed appeared before the friend could arrive.

At around 3pm, he brought her to a handicap toilet in Yishun Park and forcibly kissed her.

He then undressed her, molested her and forced her to perform a sex act on him.

When the girl started crying, Syed handed her a tissue, before asking her to masturbate in front of him.

He also tried to have sex with her, but eventually let her go when she told him she was on her period.

Acting on a report from the girl's mother, the police arrested Syed on Aug. 5, 2021.

Raped another girl twice in toilet

During the course of investigations, police discovered three other underage victims, Shin Min reported.

One of the girls, who was 11 at the time, was contacted by Syed over Instagram in 2020.

As their conversation moved to WhatsApp, Syed claimed to be "16 or 17 years old" and requested to get together with her.

After the girl agreed, Syed asked her to meet at a stairwell and forcibly kissed her.

A week later, he forced her to have sex with him in a Yishun Park handicap toilet.

Syed asked to meet her a few weeks after the incident.

The girl, who believed he would not resort to force again, agreed. However, Syed raped her again.

According to a psychiatric report of the 11-year-old girl, she continued to have nightmares after the incident, and flashbacks of what happened.

In June 2021, Syed also met a 14-year-old girl on Omegle and lied that he was 17 years old.

The two had sex a few times but when the girl saw Syed's identity card, she realised he was 21.

This made her uncomfortable and fearing that she would get pregnant, she cut off all contact with him.

He has had 4 years in remand to reflect: Lawyer

The prosecution asked for a deterrent sentence of 14 to 16 years' jail and 24 strokes of the cane for Syed, arguing that the victims were underage, and he had lied about his age, Shin Min reported.

He also had not used a condom when having sex with the victims, and forced two of them to have sex with him, said prosecutors.

In mitigation, the defence lawyer said Syed has been in remand since his arrest in 2021.

He has had four years to "reflect on his actions", as well as the support of his family, the lawyer said.

The lawyer asked for a jail sentence between 12 years and 4 months and 12 years and 9 months, along with 24 strokes of the cane.

In court on Aug. 27, Syed read out a handwritten letter of appeal, where he expressed remorse for his crimes and apologised to the victims and their families.

His sentencing has been adjourned to a later date.
