On Aug. 23, 2024, a 48-year-old woman fell into an 8m-deep sinkhole on the streets of Masjid India in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Search-and-rescue operations were halted after nine days.
Her body was never found.
On Sep. 1, 2024, her family members visited the sinkhole site to perform religious rites before flying home to India.
Returned from India to pay respects
Almost a year after the tragedy, her son was spotted near the same spot to pay his respects.
According to a TikTok, the son visited the sinkhole site on Aug. 22 to pray for his mother.
The video showed a framed photo of the missing woman decorated with a flower garland.
In front of the framed photo was a platter of offerings, including fruits and Indian sweets and savoury food.

In another video, the son could also be seen giving out food to a line of queueing people.

According to Sinar Harian, Hindus believe that donating meals to people will bring blessings to the departed soul.
