MP says MOE started review of bullying earlier in 2025, hopes to see review outcome 'sooner rather than later'
Bullying was also discussed at a recent Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for Education meeting.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) has started reviewing its approach and measures on bullying earlier this year, and will soon involve parents, educators, professionals, and the community in the next phase.
It was revealed on Aug. 24 by Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC MP David Hoe on his Facebook and Instagram.
A former teacher for six years, Hoe is also currently a member of the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for Education.
In his post, he wrote that the committee had discussed bullying, among many other issues, when they met the past week at MOE.
GPCs serve to scrutinise the legislation and programmes of ministries, and provide an additional channel of feedback on government policies.
On MOE's review, Hoe added that he looks forward to seeing its outcome soon.
Noting the concerns about bullying residents have shared with him, he said he will raise the issue "promptly", in and outside of Parliament.
Singapore "must never condone bullying or allow it to become part of our culture", he wrote, and must have in place "the right tools and support" to help bullies understand and change their behaviour.
To help those who are bullied, Hoe told The Straits Times that he hopes more safe channels can be created for them to report the bullying to their teachers, as they may not feel comfortable about it.
