A 26-year-old woman in Guangxi, China, sold her two sons and used the money to reward gaming streamers and buy clothes.

The woman, surnamed Huang (transliteration from Mandarin), was initially investigated for fraud, Sin Chew and Sina reported.

During the investigation, police discovered texts about child trafficking on Huang's mobile phone.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that she had sold her two biological sons.

Police found that Huang was an adopted child and only had an elementary school education.

Huang later moved to Fuzhou, Fujian, to work. She had no fixed job and earned a living by doing odd jobs.

Sold two children

In 2020, Huang gave birth to a baby boy. As she did not know who the father was and had no fixed income, Huang decided to sell the child.

Huang sold her first child for RMB45,000 (S$7,979).

In 2022, Huang became pregnant again and gave birth to her second child, a boy.

She sold her second child for RMB38,000 (S$6,738), who was sold later by an intermediary for RMB103,000 (S$18,263).

Squandered money

Huang reportedly squandered the sum she received from selling her child to give money to gaming streamers and buy clothes, according to Sina.

The two children have been rescued and sent to the local civil affairs department.

Huang was later found guilty of fraud and child trafficking. She was sentenced to five years and two months in prison and was given a fine of RMB30,000 (S$5,319).

Two defendants surnamed Li and Wei (transliteration from Mandarin) were convicted of buying trafficked children and were imprisoned.
