A crashing sound could be heard, with spectators gasping in shock.
When the camera panned towards the tank, the traffic light was already visibly tilted.
The tank then reversed before cautiously attempting to make another turn.
Traffic light has been repaired
The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) told The Straits Times on Jul. 6 that a Leopard 2SG Main Battle Tank (L2SG) experienced a technical issue at 7:22pm on Jul. 5.
This resulted in an accident along North Bridge Road where the tank came into contact with a traffic light, Mindef said.
The ministry said that the accident occurred after a mobile column segment of the parade.
The tank was travelling within a speed limit of 20kmh when the incident happened.
Mindef said that the tank crew "responded in accordance with standard operating procedures".
No injuries were reported, and there was no damage to the vehicle.
The tank remained within a cordoned area, away from the public.
The traffic light stand, which sustained minor damage, has been repaired by MINDEF, the NDP 2025 committee, and the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
Investigations are ongoing.
