Singaporeans are advised to defer all non-essential travel to Jammu and Kashmir in India, as well as Pakistan, given the volatile security situation between the two countries.

India launched a series of strikes on sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir on May 7 in retaliation for a militant attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir just two weeks prior.

The attack led to 25 Indians and one Nepali national dead, with Indian police later alleging that two of the attackers were Pakistanis, according to BBC.

The most recent strikes marked the worst fighting seen between the two countries in years, heightening tensions that have been simmering for decades.

"Travellers should exercise precaution, especially at the border regions between Pakistan and India," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on May 7.

Singaporeans in both countries are advised to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions for personal safety, including avoiding large gatherings, monitoring local news closely, and heeding the instructions of local authorities.

They should also register with MFA online at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg if they have yet to do so.

All Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Scoot flights have been avoiding Pakistani airspace and using alternative flight paths since May 6, as reported by CNA.

The precautionary measure may result in slightly longer flight times for some flights.
