On Jan. 25, 2011, a Singaporean man, Teo Lye Chye, then 46, received a call from his son.

The man was told that his wife was apparently behaving intimately with another man, then 50.

In response, Teo, who was living in a rented unit in Toa Payoh, arrived at his wife's flat at Ang Mo Kio carrying a kitchen knife with a blade that was about 5 inches long.

When Teo saw the 50-year-old man sleeping in the bedroom with his wife, he slashed the man across the chest and stomach, afflicting a wound so deep that the man's intestines were visible.

Teo then threw away the knife, boarded a taxi, and fled to Malaysia to evade arrest.

He only surrendered himself to the Singapore authorities around 12 years and eight months later on Oct. 17, 2023, because he missed his family.

In total, Teo, now 60, faced four charges, including assault and violating the Immigration Act, reported Shin Min Daily News.

He admitted to his offences on Apr. 30, 2025, and will be sentenced on May 15.

Dispute arose after Teo's wife behaved intimately with victim

According to court documents seen by Mothership, investigations revealed that the victim met with his daughter and Teo's daughter for drinks at a coffeeshop at Ang Mo Kio at around 6pm on Jan. 24, 2011.

At around midnight on Jan. 25, 2011, Teo's wife joined their drinking session.

Around an hour later, all of them went to the flat belonging to Teo's wife to continue drinking.

At around 3am, a dispute broke out amongst Teo's son, his wife, and his daughter.

Teo's son was upset that the victim was behaving intimately with Teo's wife.

As a result, Teo's son was asked to leave the flat at around 5am.

Teo brought knife to wife's flat

After Teo's son packed his belongings and left the flat with his fiancée and their two-month-old baby, he called Teo and informed him about the incident.

In response, Teo told his son to wait under the block.

He then took a kitchen knife from the kitchen of his rented unit, wrapped the blade in newspaper, and hid the knife behind his back, underneath his shirt.

Court documents did not state why Teo was living in a rented unit and not living with his family members.

Barged open wife's bedroom & attacked victim

Teo reached the void deck at around 6am on Jan. 25, 2011.

He then headed up to her unit with his son, while his son's fiancée remained at the void deck.

Teo's son was unaware that his father was carrying a knife with him.

When Teo's son rang the doorbell, Teo's younger son opened the door.

Teo and his son subsequently walked towards his wife's bedroom, where Teo's wife and the victim were sleeping.

Teo's son and his younger brother stood by the entrance to the bedroom and attempted to open the door.

Later on, Teo and his son started kicking the door until it opened.

Teo then took out the knife from his back, entered the room, and slashed the victim, who was awakened by the commotion and stood up.

Victim bleeding, in pain

Following the assault, the victim saw that he was bleeding and his intestines were coming out of the wound.

He sat down on the sofa in pain and applied pressure on the wound until the ambulance came.

At the time, Teo's daughter, the victim's daughter, and the family's domestic worker, who were sleeping in Teo's flat, were awakened and saw the victim's wound.

The domestic worker was then instructed by Teo's wife to clean up the blood in the room.

Police officers who were patrolling around Teo's wife's block were alerted to the incident at around 6:28am.

Teo's knife was not recovered

After slashing the victim, Teo and his son ran out of his wife's flat.

Teo threw the knife away in a rubbish bin at a block nearby and it was not recovered.

He then fled Singapore to Malaysia, but court documents did not specify how he managed to do so.

Victim sustained multiple injuries, permanent scar

According to a medical report from Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) issued on Feb. 11, 2011, the victim, who was admitted on Jan. 25, 2011, sustained multiple injuries.

These included a through cut on his left chest, across his abdominal wall, and a laceration of the spleen.

The victim underwent surgery for his injuries and was discharged on Jan. 28, 2011.

A clarification report from TTSH dated Mar. 23, 2011, stated that the victim was given 15 days of hospitalisation leave.

While his injuries were not expected to result in any permanent disease or handicap, he suffered a permanent scar to the abdomen, which is still visible to date.
