S'pore police arrest man, 31 & woman, 35, after video of man beating up another man put up online

The police have arrested a 31-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman for their alleged involvement in a case of voluntarily causing grievous hurt with common intention and suspected drug consumption.

On May 6 at about 1:20pm, the police were alerted to a social media post of a video showing two men engaging in a transaction, a police statement on May 7 night said.

After a plastic bag with unknown content was handed over, one of the men started to viciously assault the other, the footage showed.

The identities of the victim, as well as that of the man and woman, were established by officers from the Central Police Division and Criminal Investigation Department (CID), with close collaboration with the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and Singapore Prison Service (SPS).

The 35-year-old woman was allegedly responsible for recording the assault.

Raid conducted

Officers from SPF and CNB conducted a raid in the vicinity of Sengkang West Way and arrested the 31-year-old man and 35-year-old woman for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with common intention and suspected drug consumption.

The 31-year-old man was also arrested for possession of scheduled weapons.

Two machetes, one axe, one baseball bat, three mobile phones, cash amounting to more than S$3,000, 14 e-vaporisers and more than 450 e-vaporiser components were also seized as case exhibits.

Further investigations are ongoing.

The statement said the police and CNB have zero tolerance towards such brazen acts of violence and blatant disregard of the law.

What video showed

The 48-second video showed a bespectacled man in a neon green top holding a plastic bag with items inside as he approached a man wearing a long sleeve military green top.

After he handed the plastic bag over, the man in the dark green top passed it to the person behind the camera.

The content inside the plastic bag was shown to the camera, which showed another plastic bag of concealed items.

After the man in the neon green top handed over a piece of paper, the man in the dark green top suddenly swung his left fist into the other man's face knocking his glasses off.

The man in the dark green top then repeatedly rained blows and kicks on the other man who fell to the ground and his face appeared bloodied.

The video then cut off.

After the video was put up on various social media platforms, many online commenters condemned the beating, but were unclear about what led to the incident.
