M'sia man, 46, mistakes friend, 40, for wild boar & shoots him dead
He did not possess a valid firearm licence for hunting.
A 46-year-old man on a hunting trip in Malaysia mistakenly shot his 40-year-old friend, after believing he was aiming at a wild boar.
The incident occurred in Sri Aman, Sarawak in Malaysia on May 26 around 5:30pm, reported local media.
Accidentally shot friend
The man was shot in the jungle of Sungai Dor in Melugu, Sri Aman police chief Dennis Bunyam said.
“The friend, 46, discharged his shotgun at what he thought was a wild boar, only to realise that he had accidentally shot the victim," he said in a statement.
The victim, who was shot in the head, was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical team.
No firearm licence
Authorities later discovered that the man did not possess a valid firearm licence for hunting.
The shotgun was seized for further investigation.
The man is being investigated for causing death by negligence and possessing an unlicensed firearm.
“The public are advised to abide by the rules and regulations on possession and usage of firearms, and ensure all hunting activities are conducted with the necessary licence and permit from the authorities,” Dennis said.
