A man apparently promised a beer lady working at a Jurong coffee shop that he would buy another six bottles of beer from her if she drank four glasses of beer.

When the lady did as he promised, he apparently tried to get her to drink more.

In response, she commented that the customer did not fulfil his end of the bargain.

This purportedly enraged the man, and he slapped the woman with the cash he had and then hit her in the face.

The incident occurred at the BK Eating House coffee shop at Block 134 Jurong Gateway Road on May 24.

The operator said it was not at liberty to share the full details of the incident out of consideration for those involved, but emphasised that it does not tolerate violence against women under any circumstances.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed with Mothership that they received a call for assistance at Block 134 Jurong Gateway Road, where they assessed a person for minor injuries.

The person declined to be sent to the hospital.

Man made distasteful remarks towards the woman

The beer lady, 30, told Shin Min Daily News that the man in the red shirt had made distasteful remarks towards her while drinking with his friends.

There were six people in the group, including a regular customer she was familiar with.

The woman described the others as polite, but the man in the red shirt kept being disrespectful towards her and asking her to drink.

She said he had promised her that if she drank four glasses of beer, he would buy another six bottles.

Yet after she drank four glasses, the man said he did not see her drink the last glass and was unwilling to fulfil his promise.

Another person at the table requested the woman to bring two more bottles and gave her money for the drinks.

She recalled the man continued asking her to drink, but she rebutted that she could not trust him to keep his end of the bargain.

Video footage of the incident showed the man in the red shirt taking a stack of cash from his pocket and waving it in her face, before he suddenly lunged forward to hit the woman.

The woman said the man first hit her in the face with the banknotes and insulted her, then put the notes back into his pocket.

After that, he struck her on the face again.

"I didn't expect him to get angry and stand up and hit my right cheek," she said, adding that he was pulled away by the people at the same table.

The woman said she was so frightened she burst into tears.

The manager, upon learning what happened, called the police.

When she was interviewed on May 26 by Shin Min, the woman said her eyes were sore, and her cheeks were still red and swollen due to the altercation.

She said the paramedics helped ice her injuries.

As she had to rush home to take care of her daughter, she chose not to go to the hospital.

She went to the doctor the next day and was given two days of medical leave.

The woman said does not feel settled, so she has not decided whether she wishes to take any action against the man.

A single mother who works two jobs to raise 8-year-old daughter

The woman, who is Vietnamese and single, is raising her eight-year-old daughter and works two jobs to support her family.

She would work at a school cafeteria from 8am to 1pm, then work at night from 5:30pm to 10:30pm, as her mother would help take care of her daughter at home.

The woman said that though the work is hard, it is worth it for her daughter.

However, she did not expect she would be insulted at her workplace.

"I can't accept that the customer thinks that he looks down on beer ladies just because he has some money, and thinks he can humiliate or even hit us," she said.

The woman said she worked hard at her job, and beer ladies should be respected.

Police confirmed that a report was lodged.
