Underage girl, then 15, contracted sexually transmitted infection after sex with ex-actor Ian Fang

Former Mediacorp artiste Ian Fang was given 40 months' jail after he pleaded guilty on May 19 to having sex with a girl before she turned 16.

He will start his sentence on Jun. 16.

More details about his relationship with the underage girl were revealed in court.

Met at event

According to court documents seen by Mothership, the 35-year-old, whose name is Fang Weijie, first met the girl at an entertainment event on May 4, 2024.

He was 34 and she was 15.

They exchanged contact details and proceeded to converse daily.

Fang had sex with the teen on nine occasions between June and July 2024.

The prosecution said he had unprotected sex with the teen five times.

He used a condom on two occasions in July 2024 only when she insisted.

Had sex while she was quarantined for Covid-19

Fang met the teen alone at night each time, which the prosecution said indicated that the acts were premeditated.

On Jun. 6, 2024, the teen was checked into a hotel by her mother to be quarantined.

The girl had contracted Covid-19.

The victim saw Fang as her boyfriend by that time.

At around 9pm that day, he visited her at the hotel and brought two cans of beer with him.

He offered her a drink, but she declined.

He drank the beer and had unprotected sex with her.

It was her first sexual encounter.

The teen asked him to wear a condom, but he refused.

Left quarantine to meet

Less than a week later, Fang asked to meet again.

She was still quarantined in the hotel, but left the room to eat together and went to his home at around midnight.

This was after they were brought there by Fang's friend after eating together.

Fang had unprotected sex with her again.

She left his home the next day at around 9am.

He then checked in with her to find out if her mother had found out she had left the hotel room.

The teen indicated that her mother did not find out.

Had sex in hospital

On Jun. 17, 2024, the teen was hospitalised and placed in a private room for a flu infection.

Fang visited her after midnight, after the girl's mother left for home.

He had sex with her in the private occupancy hospital room.

Contracted STI

The girl later saw a doctor when her genitals started to hurt.

She was diagnosed with the human papillomavirus, a sexually transmitted infection, 8world reported.

The girl’s mother found out that Fang had been having sex with the girl and made a police report sometime in August 2024.

Messaged victim

After the police investigated, Fang messaged the girl and got her to call him because he told her that he was not supposed to contact her.

This was even after Fang was instructed twice by the investigation officer not to contact the victim.

Fang told the girl that he would commit suicide if he was sentenced to jail.

Fang kept asking the girl to get her mother to withdraw the charges and the girl developed depression and had suicidal thoughts.

She was admitted to the Institute of Mental Health and was diagnosed with adjustment disorder.

The prosecution said:

"It bears noting that notwithstanding the outcome of this case, the victim will continue to live with the knowledge that her very first sexual encounter was one that was wrong and ended with criminal proceedings."

"In other words, she will continue to carry the burden of the accused’s actions even after the conclusion of this case," it was added.
