Don Don Donki to start selling plastic bags at 5 cents again on May 19, 2025

Don Don Donki is bringing back plastic bags.

This is after the retail chain stopped selling plastic bags in October 2024.

In a Facebook post on May 19, the Japanese retail chain announced the return of plastic bags, at five cents a pop.

"Starting 19 May 2025, we will be introducing biodegradable plastic bags at just 5 cents each to better support our customers’ needs, while staying committed to environmental responsibility.

These eco-friendly bags are specially designed to break down naturally over time, helping to reduce long-term impact—so you can carry your items with greater peace of mind.

We continue to encourage all customers to bring their own reusable bags whenever possible"

Donki started out by charging 10 cents per transaction for unlimited pieces of plastic bags beginning in November 2021.

It started selling plastic bags at 5 cents per piece in July 2023.

It then stopped selling plastic bags in 2024.
