Haribo recalls cola gummies in the Netherlands after traces of cannabis found
More fizz than expected.
Several people, including children, fell ill after consuming Haribo's Happy Cola F!ZZ gummies in the Netherlands.
The candy was later found to contain traces of cannabis, prompting Haribo to issue a recall of the product in the country.
A spokesperson for the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) said some individuals reported health complaints, including dizziness, after eating the gummies, reported BBC.
Full stock recall
Although only three contaminated packs have been identified, Haribo is recalling its entire stock in the Netherlands as a precaution.
The affected batches have a best-before date of January 2026.
The company emphasised that the recall applies only to the Dutch market and that products in other regions remain unaffected.
Haribo assured consumers that all other products are safe to eat.
Investigation underway
Local police have launched an investigation into how the sweets became contaminated with cannabis.
Haribo stated that consumer safety is its highest priority and that it is taking the incident "very seriously".
It remains unclear whether the contaminated gummies came from genuine Haribo packaging or counterfeit products, and how many people in total have fallen ill.
