PM Wong & French President Emmanuel Macron spotted at Lau Pa Sat on May 29
Macron is in Singapore for a two-day state visit from May 29 to May 30.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong was spotted alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte at the Lau Pa Sat hawker centre on May 29 night.
The two leaders conducted a walkabout at the hawker centre and interacted with members of the public.
Their presence drew large crowds, and many held up their phones to capture the sight.
Mothership noted that PM Wong and Macron stopped by to try the chee cheong fun (rice noodle roll) in front of a stall.
Macron is in Singapore for a two-day state visit from May 29 to May 30.
As part of his itinerary, Macron will also attend the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD), which will be held at Shangri-La Singapore from May 30 to Jun. 1.
According to a May 29 news release issued by the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), Macron will deliver the keynote address at this year's SLD on May 30.
Details of SLD 2025
Established in 2002, the SLD is a premier defence and security conference in the Asia-Pacific region, providing "a valuable, open, and neutral platform for the exchange of perspectives on defence and security issues and initiatives".
The 2025 edition of the conference, which is organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), will see 47 countries in attendance, revealed MINDEF.
Attendees will include 40 ministerial-level delegates, 20 chief of defence forces-level delegates, more than 20 senior defence officials, and prominent academics.
During the conference, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will deliver a special address on May 31.
On the same day, Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam will host delegates to a dinner at St Regis Singapore.
On Jun. 1, Singapore's Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing will speak at the seventh plenary session, which will revolve around the topic of "Enhancing Security Cooperation for a Stable Asia-Pacific."
Additionally, he will conduct bilateral meetings with ministers and senior officials from various countries on the sidelines of the SLD.
As a regular feature of the SLD, Chan will host visiting ministers to roundtable discussions on May 31 and Jun. 1.
He will also host the Five Power Defence Arrangements defence ministers, namely his counterparts from Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, to breakfast.
