S'porean man, 67, jailed for molesting girl, 10, twice at school

A 10-year-old girl was standing at the edge of her school canteen on May 6, 2024, when a male cleaner, then 66, called to her as he walked towards her.

The man, who was unknown to the girl, subsequently hugged her from the front for around two seconds before thrusting his groin towards her.

Later on, when the girl was playing with a ball by herself at her school's indoor sports hall, the man approached her again, hugged her from behind, and thrust his groin against her buttocks.

Although the girl voiced her discomfort, the man hugged her from the front, touched her buttocks over her clothes, and thrust his groin towards her groin again.

The man's offences came to light after the girl reported his violation to her teacher, and a police report was lodged on the same day.

On May 14, 2025, the man, now 67, was sentenced to 11 months and two weeks in jail after pleading guilty to two counts of molestation, reported The Straits Times.

His name was redacted from court documents.

First molested girl during her recess period

According to court documents seen by Mothership, the first violation took place at around 11:15am on May 6, 2024, when the girl was in the middle of recess.

As she had just finished eating her meal at her school canteen, she went towards the rubbish bin located at the canteen's edge to throw away the trash.

Upon doing so, she stood at the edge of the canteen, and the accused called to her as he approached her.

However, the accused's gestures confused the girl, as it was the first time she had seen him.

Upon walking up to the girl, the accused placed his hand on her left shoulder before hugging her from the front and thrusting his groin towards her once.

The girl did not hug back and took a few steps away from him after the accused released her from the hug.

She then ran back into the canteen and sat at one of the tables.

Likewise, the accused stepped back into the canteen as well.

Kept approaching girl & tried to kiss her

Around four minutes later, the accused approached the girl again and sat down at a seat to her left.

He then placed his left arm around her back and his left hand on her left shoulder.

It was only when a boy approached the girl and tried to talk to her that the accused stood up and left the table.

After recess ended at around 11:30am, she stood up and got ready to head back to class.

The accused approached her and moved around until he was positioned behind her.

He then leaned in to kiss her on her right cheek, causing the girl to cringe.

She also turned her head away, thereby preventing the accused from successfully kissing her.

Later on, the girl walked away from the accused and joined her schoolmates.

Touched girl inappropriately while she was alone

Around 20 minutes later, the victim began playing with a ball by herself at the indoor sports hall for her physical education class.

The accused approached her again, walked around her until he was behind her, and proceeded to hug her from behind.

As he hugged her, he thrusted his groin against her buttocks, prompting her to cry out, "Don't touch me!"

The accused then released the hug, which lasted approximately one second, and moved to the front of her.

From the front, the accused hugged the girl again and stretched his hands towards her buttocks from behind.

He touched her buttocks over her clothes and thrust his groin towards her groin as he hugged her.

The accused's deeds caused the girl to drop the ball she was playing with.

The dropping of the ball, in turn, led the accused to release the girl from the hug, which lasted around two seconds.

Police report lodged on same day

After class, the girl told her teacher about the man's actions.

She was then brought to see her school principal, vice-principal, and school counsellor.

A police report was made against the accused at around 1:54pm on the same day he committed his offences.

While those convicted of molestation could be jailed, fined, and caned, the man cannot be caned as he is over 50 years old.
