Facebook user Rich Sng has amended three posts on Facebook relating to convicted money launderer Su Haijin.

This came after Minister for Health Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Transport Chee Hong Tat and NTUC secretary-general and Jalan Kayu Member of Parliament (MP) Ng Chee Meng sent him lawyers' letters for defamation.

The posts in question included pictures depicting Ong, Chee and Ng at dinners organised and paid for by businessman Sam Goi, at which Su was present.

According to The Straits Times, Goi said the dinner with Chee was held on Nov. 19, 2020, the dinner with Ng was on May 1, 2021, and the dinner with Ong was on May 10, 2022.

Su was arrested amid a billion-dollar money laundering probe in August 2023.

Original posts taken down

As of May 15, three of Sng's posts have been updated with a notice that the posts were removed at the request of Ong, Chee and Ng.

Sng, whose actual name is Sng Chia Huat, indicated that he would make a formal response after he received official letters of demand from the three politicians' lawyers.

"Until then, I'll remain silent because I've been asked to. Thank you," Sng added.

On May 15, 12:45am, Sng shared in an update that he has received the letters of demand from Ong, Chee and Ng.

Sng has been issued ultimatums to apologise to Ong, Chee and Ng and withdraw his allegations by May 16 or face legal action.

Background

On May 8 and May 10, Sng published the posts in which he accused ministers Ong and Chee of "pretending not to know [Su]".

Both ministers previously responded to allegations surrounding the photos, and clarified that they do not know Su personally.

On May 12, Ong and Chee said in a joint statement that Sng accused them of being aware that Su had broken laws but choosing to condone it, being involved in or susceptible to corruption or bribery, and being part of a system that protects such criminals.

The ministers asked Sng to apologise, withdraw his false allegations, and pay damages by May 16.

If not, they will sue him to clear their names and uphold the government's reputation.

On May 12, Ng also referred to such posts put up by Sng, calling them "false, misleading, and defamatory".

Previously, Ng said in response to allegations that he is often approached for photographs at engagements which he attends as secretary-general of NTUC.

After learning about the police investigations and subsequent criminal charges against Su, Ng had no further interactions with him, he said.

Ng asked Sng to withdraw his false allegations and to apologise by May 16, or Ng will be compelled to take legal action to clear his name.

He has also asked Sng to propose an amount of damages, which Ng will donate to charity.
