Woman, 28, dies after car hits bus along Punggol Road

Police also found e-vaporiser pods in the car.

A car collided with a Go-Ahead Singapore bus along Punggol Road towards Tampines Expressway (TPE) on May 13 afternoon.

Following the collision, a car passenger, a 28-year-old female, passed away after being conveyed unconscious to the hospital.

As e-vaporiser pods were also found in the car, the e-vaporiser-related offence will be referred to the Health Sciences Authority.

Aftermath

The aftermath of the fatal collision was caught on camera by an onlooker, who subsequently shared the photo with Shin Min Daily News.

According to the onlooker, the car rear-ended a Go-Ahead Singapore service 82 bus and several ambulances subsequently arrived at the scene.

Paramedics were seen performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a woman who was lying on a stretcher.

She was subsequently carried into the ambulance, recounted the onlooker.

Damages

When Shin Min reporters arrived at the scene of the collision at around 4pm on Tuesday, the bus and the car were still parked along the second leftmost lane of the road.

Police officers were seen directing traffic.

The car was severely damaged from the collision.

The bonnet of the car was dented and opened.

The car's windshield was also cracked, with debris scattered along the road.

The car's front passenger airbags had been activated, and there appeared to be blood stains on the airbag for the driver side.

The bus' left rear was also damaged.

Bus captain extinguished fire, rescued car driver & passenger: witness

According to a resident who lives near the scene of the incident, he heard a loud crash when the collision occurred, reported Shin Min.

When he arrived at the scene, he saw the bus captain getting off the bus to check on the situation.

After the bus captain noticed smoke coming from the car's engine, he immediately returned to the bus and got a fire extinguisher.

He also asked the affected passengers to alight the bus before dashing towards the car and extinguishing the fire within a few seconds, recounted the resident.

The resident added that the bus captain also joined passers-by and passengers onboard the bus to rescue the car driver and the woman, who was said to be sitting in the front-row passenger seat.

Police investigation ongoing

In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that they were alerted to the collision at around 2:50pm on May 13.

SCDF conveyed one person to Sengkang General Hospital and another to Changi General Hospital.

The car driver, a 30-year-old male, was conveyed conscious to the hospital.

A car passenger, a 28-year-old female, was conveyed unconscious to the hospital, where she subsequently passed away.

E-vaporiser pods were found in the car.

The e-vaporiser-related offence will be referred to the Health Sciences Authority.

Police investigations are ongoing.

All passengers alighted safely: Go-Ahead Singapore

A Go-Ahead Singapore spokesperson confirmed with Mothership that one of its service 82 buses was involved in the collision.

According to the spokesperson, the bus was stationary at the traffic light when it was knocked into by a private vehicle from behind.

"All 10 passengers on board and our bus captain alighted safely. Upon seeing smoke from the private vehicle's engine compartment, our bus captain retrieved the bus' fire extinguisher and helped to contain the fire," read the statement.

Go-Ahead Singapore is working with the relevant authorities to assist in their ongoing investigations, added the spokesperson.
