Two existing primary schools in Singapore will be relocated in 2029 due to changes in demand, said the Ministry of Education (MOE) in a May 14 statement.

Townsville Primary School and Damai Primary School, currently located at Ang Mo Kio and Bedok respectively, will be relocated to East Canberra and Tampines North to meet growing demand in those two areas.

As such, there will be no Primary One registration from 2025 to 2027 for both schools.

They will however remain operational in their current campuses until 2030 so existing students can complete their studies there.

This means that they will operate from two campuses, the old and the new one, in 2029 and 2030.

Meanwhile, to accommodate demand in the new estates of Chencharu, Yishun and North Coast, Woodlands, two new primary schools will be set up in those areas.

Both schools will be operational by 2031, MOE said.

More details will be shared when ready.

Primary One registration starting

The registration period for children's admission to Primary One in 2026 will take place from Jul. 1, 2025 to Oct. 31, 2025.

Parents can register their children through the online P1 Registration Portal here and login via their Singpass.

If they require assistance, they can contact their school of choice via email or telephone between 9am and 4:30pm during the registration period.

The full list of primary schools and the total number of available vacancies will be made available by Jun. 24 at the P1 Registration Website here, and be updated during each phase of the P1 Registration Exercise.

MOE also reminded parents that under the Compulsory Education Act, Singapore Citizens born after Jan. 1, 1996 and residing in Singapore are required to attend national primary schools.

Children born between Jan. 2, 2019 and Jan. 1, 2020 must either participate in this year's P1 Registration Exercise, or enrol in the Junior 1/P1 Programme of a SPED school.

In addition, any registrant found to have provided false information during the P1 Registration Exercise will be referred to the police for investigation.

If a child is found is found to have been successfully registered in a school based on false information, MOE will transfer the child to another school with remaining vacancies at its own discretion.
