Man, 40, arrested for allegedly assaulting 2 women, aged 30 & 82, with metal rod in Tampines after they refused to hand over valuables

He was arrested within three hours after a police report was lodged.

A 40-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly demanded two women, aged 30 and 82, respectively, to hand over their valuables along Tampines Street 22 on May 12 afternoon.

When the two women refused to comply, the man purportedly used a metal rod to assault them, said the Singapore Police Force in a May 13 news release.

The man will be charged in court on May 14 with the offence of attempted armed robbery with hurt.

The offence carries a jail term of between five years and 20 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.

Arrested within 3 hours after police report was lodged

According to the police, they were alerted to the case at around 1:30pm on Monday.

As a result of the alleged assault, the two female victims sustained injuries and were conveyed conscious to the hospital.

Officers from Bedok Police Division and Police Operations Command Centre established the man's identity with the aid of images from police and surveillance cameras.

He was arrested within three hours after the police report was lodged.

The metal rod he allegedly used was seized as a case exhibit.
