Prime Minister Lawrence Wong introduced nine candidates who will be part of the People's Action Party (PAP) General Election (GE) 2025 slate, in a video posted to his social media on Apr. 13.

Addressing young Singaporeans and first-time voters in the clip, PM Wong acknowledged their generation's desire "not to settle for the status quo".

"And with the way the world is moving, we hear you. I hear you. Our team feels the same way. We want to work with you to take on the challenges to come," PM Wong said.

He ended off by calling on young Singaporeans to make "Singapore the best she has ever been".

Who are the 9 faces in the video?

During the clip, nine individuals were shown in various parts of Singapore.

They are:

  • Bernadette Giam, 38, F&B company director, branch chair of Sengkang East
  • Marshall Lim, 38, criminal lawyer, branch chair of Hougang
  • Elmie Nekmat, 43, NUS associate professor, branch chair of Sengkang Central
  • Daniel Liu, 42, urban planning consultancy managing director, branch chair of Paya Lebar
  • Faisal Abdul Aziz, 37, dentist, branch chair of Kaki Bukit
  • Theodora Lai, 39, venture capital firm co-founder, branch chair of Sengkang North
  • Chan Hui Yuh, 48, marketing director, branch chair of Serangoon
  • Adrian Ang, 42, maintenance company director, branch chair of Bedok Reservoir-Punggol
  • Jagathishwaran Rajo, 38, assistant director at National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), branch chair of Eunos

All nine will be competing in opposition-held constituencies — in Sengkang GRC, Hougang SMC and Aljunied GRC.

On Apr. 13, Theodora Lai, Elmie Nekmat and Bernadette Giam were announced to be on PAP's slate for Sengkang GRC, along with former Member of Parliament (MP) Lam Pin Min.

The same day, Chan Hui Yuh, Faisal Abdul Aziz, Adrian Ang, Daniel Liu and Jagathishwaran Rajo were unveiled as the five-person PAP team to contest Aljunied GRC.

It was also announced that Marshall Lim would be representing the PAP in Hougang SMC.

Previously, on Apr. 12, PM Wong had released a similar video featuring eight PAP new faces.

Over 30 new faces for PAP

On Apr. 12, PM Wong, who is also PAP's secretary-general, announced at a press conference that PAP has finalised its lineup of candidates for GE2025 and would be introducing more than 30 new candidates for the election.

These new faces, which will be introduced in the coming days as each constituency unveils its candidates, would be the largest slate of new faces in recent history, added PM Wong.

In comparison, PAP had introduced a smaller slate of 27 new faces for GE2020.

While acknowledging that PAP currently has an "excellent team" of MPs, PM Wong said that he needed to "renew and refresh" the party to bring in "new blood, new ideas, and new energy" that will serve Singaporeans better.
