'It has been an incredible privilege to serve as an MP': PAP's Louis Ng reflects on 10 years in Parliament
"Thank you for giving me this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others," said Ng.
People's Action Party (PAP) Member of Parliament (MP) Louis Ng posted a "report card" on his 10 years in Parliament, touching on the topics he brought up and his contributions.
Ng was elected as an MP representing the Nee Soon East division of Nee Soon GRC in 2015.
He was re-elected in 2020.
Ng established the animal welfare charity Acres as an undergraduate in 2001 and stepped down as its chief executive officer in 2021.
Over the course of 10 years, Ng shared that he raised:
- 1,055 parliamentary questions
- 15 adjournment motions
- Two private member's motions
- Two private member's bills
- One parliamentary petition
In addition, he said he helped 269 pieces of legislation through his bill speeches.
The groups of people whom he spoke up for via his speeches covered numerous topics, including on issues facing single unwed parents, animal welfare, migrant workers, parental leave and more.
He wrote on Facebook: "It has been an incredible privilege to serve as an MP, speaking up and giving everyone, especially the marginalised, a voice in parliament. It's a responsibility I have never taken lightly."
"Thank you for giving me this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. I will continue to fight hard to make Singapore a better place for all," he concluded.
When Mothership asked Ng if he is stepping down as an MP and will not run in the upcoming general election, Ng declined to comment.
Nee Soon GRC, anchored by Minister K Shanmugam, is likely to have new candidates in the constituency.
New faces, such as Goh Hanyan, Syed Harun Alhabsy and Jackson Lam, have appeared alongside Shanmugam in various weekend walkabouts.
