Over 70 victims detected beneath collapsed building in Bangkok
One body has been retrieved from the rubble.
Over 70 signs of either bodies or people were detected beneath the rubble of the collapsed State Audit office building in Bangkok, Thailand, The Nation reported.
Most victims resting on the 17th to 21st floors at the time of the collapse
According to an official of the Ruamkatanyu Rescue Foundation, the bodies were detected by a scanner supplied by the U.S. military, the Bangkok Post reported.
However, the scanners could not determine how many metres below the pile of concrete the victims were located.
The official added that most victims are likely trapped between the 17th to 21st floors, where they were resting just after lunch.
The building had pancaked, following the earthquake that hit Myanmar on Mar. 28.
Thus far, one body has been retrieved from the rubble.
This brings the death toll in Bangkok from the earthquake to 14, while 72 remain missing.
Lack of complete blueprint, thick structural side walls challenge the rescue team
The official also said that one of the biggest obstacles the rescue team faces is the lack of a complete blueprint for the building, which means it is difficult to strategise the approach for rescue and salvage operations.
Another challenge they face is the thick structural side walls, which has made it harder for the rescue teams to dig out survivors or bodies.
A post by Fire & Rescue Thailand on Apr. 1 showed that cranes have since been deployed to the site to help clear concrete slabs from the collapsed building.
