Thundery showers on most days in S'pore in 1st half of Apr. 2025
Sumatra squalls might cause a couple of rainy mornings.
Get ready to bring your laundry in after lunch as the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) has warned of moderate to heavy thundery showers on most afternoons over the next two weeks.
Thundery showers
MSS issued a media advisory on Apr. 1 saying that the Northeast Monsoon conditions that have prevailed since mid-November are expected to weaken gradually.
The first two weeks of April will see inter-monsoon conditions which are expected to last until May.
This period will likely see light and variable winds and more lightning, manifesting in thundery showers most afternoons, occasionally extending into the evening.
MSS warns that Sumatra squalls may bring thundery showers, accompanied by gusty winds on a few mornings.
Expect higher-than-average rainfall during this period over most parts of Singapore.
Meanwhile, the daily maximum temperatures are likely to range between 33°C and 34°C on most days, and reach around 35°C on a few days.
570 per cent
The last two weeks of March were very wet, with much of the island seeing far more rainfall than usual, with Changi registering rainfall 570 per cent above average and temperatures falling as low as 22°C.
March 2025 was the wettest March on record, with monthly rainfall breaking the previous record of 451mm in 2004, with a new record of 482.9mm.

On Mar. 20, Kallang saw 216.8mm of rainfall on a single day, the highest recorded for for the second fortnight of March 2025.
This was caused by a surge of north-easterly winds, also known as a monsoon surge, over the South China Sea, bringing moderate to heavy showers over the island.
