A 23-year-old Slovakian tourist went missing in Boracay, a resort island in the Philippines, and was found days later in an abandoned chapel.

According to The Philippine Star, Michaela Mickova was found on Mar. 12 by a local resident.

The resident had noticed a stench along his way home and followed it, where he discovered the body of Mickova on the chapel ground.

The local police stated that Mickova was found naked from the waist down, her blouse was rolled up, and her legs were spread apart, The Philippines Star reported.

She also had a stab wound in the abdomen.

Mickova reportedly arrived in Boracay on Mar. 1 to attend her friend's wedding and was staying in a hotel 1km from where she was found.

She was reported missing on Mar. 10.

Surveillance footage of her at a shop when she was last seen before she disappeared showed her in a green head gear and red apparel.

Developments of the case have been closely reported and compiled in recent days.

Three suspects

On Mar. 17, the police confirmed that Mickova was sexually assaulted as the autopsy result showed trauma from sexual abuse, bruises and a fatal blow to the head.

One of the suspects happened to be nabbed in an anti-drug operation on Mar. 14 and he admitted that his friends had sexually assaulted and killed Mickova.

The man, alias Mik, said he was "bothered by his conscience" regarding Mickova's death and gave his testimony against his friends, The Philippine Star reported.

What allegedly happened

Mik had allegedly met his two other friends for a drink and gone to a nearby hotel when they saw Mickova.

One of them, named Jelo, engaged Mickova in a chat before heading to the abandoned chapel.

Jelo then led the way, holding Mickova by the wrist, and she allegedly did not resist.

Mik then stated that he was on his phone when he heard a loud thud and saw the third man holding a piece of wood, appearing to have hit Mickova from behind.

He hit Mickova again on the head, resulting in her collapsing to the ground, unconscious.

Mik said he saw the other two carry Micokva's lifeless body into the chapel and lay her on the ground.

Jelo apparently had his pants down, but as Mik was about to question him, he heard children's voices passing by the area.

He then left and went to a friend's house.

The other two joined him 30 minutes later and did not discuss the incident.

In subsequent reports, the police identified three suspects, but found a connection to a fourth man Mickova had met while she was strolling around the island.

The fourth man apparently invited her to drink coconut water, and the three suspects knew the fourth man.

Two of the suspects have since been held in police custody.

News of incident have shocked tourists and locals, who are worried about the repercussions on the tourism sector.

The police chief of the island reportedly stressed that the incident was isolated as "it's the first case that happened on the island".

"We assure the public that Boracay Island remains a safe and secure destination, with law enforcement authorities committed to maintaining peace and order," he added.

GoFundMe Page

A friend of Mickova has set up a GoFundMe page calling for justice and to fund the cost of bringing the victim's body back to Europe.

The friend shared that Mickova had written to them before she went missing to say how happy she was.

The friend shared that Mickova had lived and worked as a caregiver in Berlin, Germany, and that she "is very much missed".

"I wish for nothing more than that my beloved friend is alive, but she´s been taken from us forever. I want to support her family at least with this appeal for donations. I hope that the investigation will be completed soon so that Michaela can be buried in her hometown , we can say goodbye and she can rest in peace," the friend concluded.
